The History of KRA
The Kimberly Recreation Association (KRA) is a non profit organization formed in 1946, and incorporated in 1972, to serve the citizens of the Kimberly Area School District with social and recreational programs. We have continued to flourish over the years as a result of the tremendous efforts of our Board of Directors, their families, and an enormous volunteer force.
We routinely provide funding and volunteer support for the following charities, events, and awards:
-
Hosted the International Softball Congress (ISC) World Tournament a record eleven (11) times: 1972, 1975, 1978, 1982, 1985, 1989, 1993, 1996, 1998, 2003, 2008. The KRA and ISC each celebrated 50 years of service during the 1996 World Tournament. The ISC Hall of Fame is located at the Kimberly Municipal Complex just outside the Library.
-
Awards the Wayne Kilsdonk Scholarship annually to graduating High School seniors. This scholarship provides $1,000.00 in funds for college expenses payable at $250.00 per year over four years.
-
Annually recognizes individuals who have served the organization as volunteer or significant contributor, in a manner worthy of special recognition. This award is presented at the KRA Annual Meeting held each year in late April.
-
KRA has made major contributions over the years to the softball diamonds and concessions stands at Sunset Park. We have also made contributions to the building of the Kimberly Amphitheater and the KHS Fitness Center.
